What does our Learning Community value?

How is our curriculum structured?

 

What choice subjects do we offer in Year 8 and 9?

What happens in each subject?

  • All subjects run for 225 minutes (3 sessions of 75 minutes) per week.
  • Subjects will have at least two assessment tasks throughout the semester.
  • Subjects will have an exam each semester.
  • Teachers of each subject will complete progress reports every 5-6 weeks.

 

What happens in home-group and Personal Growth classes?

  • Your child will meet with their homeroom teacher every morning for independent reading and any administrative information. This person is the first point of contact for families and students with any concerns or questions.
  • Students will undertake 150 minutes of Personal Growth per week, which includes:
  • Health
  • Thinking Skills
  • Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships
  • For most Year 8 and 9 students, this person is the same in 2017 and 2018.

 

How do we communicate with families?

  • Term 1 – Meetings arranged, if required.
  • Term 2 – Weeks 1-3 – Family Conferences
  • Term 3 – Weeks 1-3 – Family Conferences
  • Term 4 – Week 11 – Information Evening for 2019

 

  • Progress reports and Learning Tasks are updated continuously via Compass.
  • The school diary is no longer being printed. Please communicate via email, Compass or phone call.
  • Semester Reports are published in the final week of Term 2 and Term 4.

 

What is meant by ‘Learning Tasks’?

This is how a variety of tasks and assessments are referred to on Compass. Learning Tasks are set by teachers are uploaded to Compass. There will be a description of the task set. When the task has been submitted and marks, feedback will be given. This can be scores, written comments or statements such as “At expected level”. Some of these Learning Tasks will make up the semester reports.

What is meant by ‘Progress Reports’?

This is brief summary of the effort and behaviour of students in each of their classes. There are two progress reports per term.
