Reading Recovery is a special individualised program to help children in Grade One who need support to succeed in reading and writing.
Every day the children come for their own individual half hour of work. In that period of time they read familiar books that they can read fluently, new books where they have to learn how to use various strategies to successfully read unknown books in the future, write a daily story (1 - 2 sentences) learning to use different strategies to write unfamiliar words and build up their known vocabulary of words to write.
The children can remain on the program up to 15 - 20 weeks, but it depends entirely on the individual child and their progress. The Reading Recovery Program is a school committed funded program with each child working independently with a specially trained teacher.
